In the early 1960's, Mescalero Apache musician, A. Paul Ortega created a sound that forever revolutionized the landscape of Native American music. A respected medicine man, he effortlessly fused Native American healing traditions with the gentle strum of guitar, the stomp of bass drum and the mournful cry of harmonica. With blues-tinged vocals and storytelling that draw upon Native culture, Two Worlds and Three Worlds have gone on to become modern classics of contemporary Native American musical expression.

As "Hand in Hand," Marge Bruchac and Justin Kennick have been performing Algonkian Indian music, story, and dance for historical events, museums, and folk festivals since 1994. Their performance venues include the Champlain Valley Festival, First Nations Festival, Fort Ticonderoga, Missisquoi Abenaki Powwow, Mashantucket Pequot Museum, Mystic Seaport Sea Music Festival, and Old Songs Festival, in addition to two tours of the Netherlands and Germany. This 1999 recording features their resonant harmonies accompanied by hand drum, rattles, and flute, with songs about greeting, feasting, dancing, and history, and three traditional stories: "Bear Clan Medicine," "Moosbas," and "Crow Lost His Voice."
